Think of the Hub as the brain that controls all the devices in your home. Your hub is connected to your account, and when you pair a new device such as a light controller, it is controlled by the hub. Using your smart phone, you can tell the hub what to do.
Yes. All communication between the hub, our servers, and your phone is encrypted. We use the same level of encryption your bank uses to provide you with internet banking. Security and privacy are crucial to the success of Evander, we take them very seriously. We use the latest S2 Framework provided by Sigma Designs, which enhances the level of encryption in the devices themselves. Please note, as a matter of policy Evander will not allow you to use your voice to unlock or lock any doors in or outside of your home.
The Evander Hub supports Z-Wave, WiFi and Bluetooth devices. It also has USB ports and we plan to integrate even more, which we will prioritise based on the feedback we get from our users. You can take a look at our compatibility list to see what products Evander supports. Be sure to keep an eye out on that page, we’re always adding new products. If you’d like to, opt-in to our newsletter to receive updates as soon as we’ve added new devices.
The devices that are compatible with Evander are very easy to pair. The majority of them are battery powered (the camera for example requires a power source). You will have received an instruction manual with the devices you’ve purchased, and we also offer setup guides should you need them.
To pair a new device, go to the “Add Device” menu in the Evander app. On the physical device itself, just press the pairing button. The device is now paired to your account. Now you just have to give the device a name, and you’re good to go.
Yes. The hub has a quad-core CPU and 1GB of RAM and we plan to utilise the hardware to its absolute potential. We’re always working on the software that sits on the hub, to give it new features and enhance performance.
Your Evander Hub receives OTA (over the air) updates. It updates automatically when we release a new firmware version, so you don’t have to worry about doing anything. We test all updates before shipping them out and we don’t expect an update to break anything in your configuration (and neither should you).
If you’re still at home and connected to the same WiFi network, you will still be able to connect to your hub even if your internet has gone down. Very shortly, we will be offering a small mobile broadband modem that you can plug into the USB port of your hub. When the hub detects an issue with your internet, it will automatically connect to mobile broadband — giving you access in the event you’re away from home and your landline internet has gone down.
We offer two colour options for now. A white base with a transparent cover, and a black base (also with a transparent cover).
Your Evander Account
All you need to do is plug in your power cable and connect the hub to your internet. Once connected, open the Evander app on your phone and register an account using the activation code provided in your welcome pack. From there, you can immediately start pairing and controlling devices in your home.
For users that don’t wish to control their home when they’re away, an internet connection is not necessary.
We also have live chat on our website if you’d prefer to chat to our team. For those that use Facebook Messenger, you can talk to us there too.
